CURRENT CHORISTER AUDITION INFORMATION:
Mandatory re-auditions are held each Spring for current Preparatory and Concert Choir members. This year, re-auditions will take place on May 12 for Concert Choir members and May 19 for Preparatory Choir members. All Preparatory and Concert Choir members wishing to continue with NCC in the upcoming academic year must re-audition.
Touring Choir members need not re-audition.
The panel of directors who listens to the audition decides whether or not a chorister moves to the next choir or continues in the current choir. Decisions regarding advancement are based on the vocal, musical, and social maturity demonstrated by the chorister during the auditions and during the previous year. Consistent attendance is also a consideration for advancement in the choir program. It the goal of the choir program that all choristers sing in a choir in which they can succeed and flourish. Some children spend only one year in each choir; others spend more than one year in Preparatory and/or Concert choir.
The audition content of the re-audition is very similar as that of prospective choristers who are auditioning for the first time.
Letters inviting children to participate in NCC another year - either by singing in the same choir or moving up to the next most advanced choir—will be mailed by mid-June.

PROSPECTIVE NEW CHORISTER AUDITION INFORMATION:
Auditions for 08-09 choir members concluded on May 20th, 2008. Based on enrollment, we sometimes hear children in mid-August or early January. If you would like to be notified should we choose to audition during one of these times, please contact us at ncc@mail.belmont.edu
Neither prior choral experience nor the ability to read music is necessary to audition, and your child does not need to prepare an audition song. During the audition, an NCC director will lead a group of four or five children to sing—both as a group and individually—vocal exploration exercises and familiar songs such as “Happy Birthday.” The audition is not a stressful situation, and parents are invited to sit in the back and observe if they wish. The directors watch and listen for tuneful singing, evidence of musical aptitude, and demonstration of the child’s ability to concentrate, focus, follow directions, and work in a group setting.
A child must be a rising third through seventh grader (current second through sixth grader) to audition for the Nashville Children’s Choir. |
